Before writing a song, you need to know the four elements that make up a song. Every song will have these four elements.

*Melody - the melody is the modulation of the song. It is musical notes place together with pitch variances to make a perceptible phrase.

*Lyrics - the lyrics are the words the songwriter uses to convey his feelings, arranged the mood, or tell the story. Lyrics produce emotion in a song and draw people to understand them.

*Rhythm - this is the 'time' in music. Rhythm contains tempo and beat. The tempo is often referred to as the beat. Some songs have the rhythm during the entire song while others modify it while in the song.

*Harmony - The harmony is how notes come together to create chords. The harmony is the base for the melody.

Now that you understand the elements of a song let's look at a way to grasp the listener's interest. The intro is the start of the song. The regular intro is half a verse of music only, no lyrics.

The hook is the likable part of the song that becomes stuck in your head. As a songwriter, this can be the most crucial part of your song. It is what the people will usually remember about your song.

Finally, the outro is the final of the song when everything is gone. The outro is usually the chorus or parts of the chorus performed over and over until it fades out absolutely. The outro can be played as an instrumental or with vocals.
