The Different Styles Of Michael Myers Masks

By Jim Howser

I know that you've heard of Michael Myers. He is the masked maniac from the Halloween movie franchise with a love for killing bad kids and babysitters. Influenced by a Canadian film called Black Christmas, Halloween is credited with propelling the slasher move franchise to new heights. The mask has become an iconic symbol. There is also more than one to choose from.

Classic Mask - The classic mask is the definitely the best looking mask and the most can be done with it as well. It usually features Myers' swept back hairstyle to conceal your own hair. This means that you don't need to dye your hair if it is not already brown. Most of these masks also cover the neck down to the collar.

Variations - Some newer masks show Myers in a variety of guises from the different films that he appeared in. The most common mask of this type is one featuring a large, bloody wound to the side of the face. There is a wide degree of variation in these masks so you should choose carefully before parting with your cash. Over the years the mask from the movie has changed only slighty. It wasn't until the remake that there was a drastic change.

Costume And Accessories - To complete the costume you would need to buy a pair of black overalls and a prop. The most popular prop is the knife that is used in virtually all of the Halloween movies. You could always just go ahead and buy the complete costume but make sure you shop around and see if you can get the overalls and prop a little cheaper. You can usually find a prop knife in a dollar store around Halloween too so if you're not picky about quality you may as well save a few bucks. Just beware of the cheap knock off masks that are out there.

In the movie, you do not often see Myers' eyes. Some people who wear this mask go even further in their pursuit of being authentic and will wear larger style black contact lenses so that their eyes cannot be seen behind the mask. Or just paint dark circles around your eyes. - 40726
