Mark Wahlberg's Best Roles In Recent Memory

By Matthew Haley

This article will focus on the movie career of Mark Wahlberg. Wahlberg entered the acting world to a decent amount of ridicule, since he was previously a musician and model. There was a lot of skepticism as to whether or not he would be able to successfully switch careers. Well, almost twenty years later, Wahlberg has proved all his critics wrong, starring in a string of hits.

The following movies are some of the greatest films to star Mark Wahlberg over his career thus far.

One movie that certainly makes the list for me is Four Brothers. This seemed to be just another movie about some hardcore group of guys who go on a revenge mission, but as the film progressed it turns out it is much more than that. Andre from Outkast is great in this movie.

Another film that starred Mark Wahlberg that I thoroughly enjoyed was I Heart Huckabees. This is a bizarre, yet hilarious film that is really about nothing. It is as existential a movie as they come.

It goes without saying that any list of films starring Wahlberg has to include The Departed. If you are going to combine an all star cast of Wahlberg, Matt Damon, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Vera Farmiga and the great Jack Nicholson with a director like Martin Scorsese, the result is going to be awesome.

The Perfect Storm is another movie that I feel is worthy of mentioning as one of his best. This movie tells the lifestyle of fisherman from the town of Gloucester, Massachusetts. I am not sure if it's based on a true story, but it easily could be.

Finally, Boogie Nights has to be mentioned in this article. The role of Dirk Diggler might have been Wahlberg's best role to date, and this movie has become a cult classic. Director Paul Thomas Anderson hit a home run with this one.

As it stands, this is my Mark Wahlberg list. I tend to like most of the movies he is in though. - 40726
